Please Dell - we need a Bios fix urgently. I have checked this out on four separate D610's and docking stations and the same happens them all. I believe it to be a Bios problem but Dell Ireland contacted D610 product support and were told that this was a feature - you have got to be kidding - it is a potential fire risk since the battery could keep the laptop running for over two hours and it will be in a foam and fabric bag. So many of you who eject D610's may have been puzzled as to why your battery was dead after being docked for a whole day. Then the proper standby will shut everything down. The only immediate cure is once you undock a system, open the lid and close it again. I always put the laptop in my bag with the external connectors in first so therefore, this means that the rear air vent will be blocked at the bottom of the bag as will the underside air vent. It stays running until the battery runs out. However, about an hour later, the laptop and bag will be boiling hot and you will hear the fan still running. It’s more efficient, so it burns less fuel. The natural thing to do is to undock a system and put it straight into a laptop bag. The Cat ® D10 Dozer is innovative by design developed by a team of experts who follow a design approach that incorporates feedback from the field with industry-leading technologies to deliver a dozer that continues to advance with every model. However, if you undock it, all looks OK - the power indicator fades on and off, the screen and everything appears to be shut down BUT the problem is that something is still running and I believe it may be the video. If you set the Bios to Warm undock then the system SHOULD undock and be in Standby mode. There is a major problem with D610's when using docking stations.
